Biden, who turned 80 in November, was led away from the podium by a young girl after his remarks concluded
A young girl led President Joe Biden off the stage after he made a speech Monday at a Toys for Tots event with the United States Marine Corps Reserve in Arlington, Virginia.
“Which way do we go?” Biden asked of a young girl who took his hand and led him in the right route.
Toys for Tots, a military charity organization that distributes donated toys to children whose parents are unable to buy Christmas gifts, celebrated its 75th anniversary at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.
Every year, the organization distributes around 18 million toys to 7 million children. In the United States, an estimated 11 million children live below the federal poverty level. Samara Donahue, a military child who spoke at the ceremony, was praised by Biden.
“When I was that age, I could hardly say my name in public,” Biden said. “Actually, I used to stutter when I was a little boy until I was in high school. It was the only thing, everybody – anyway – you’re very impressive.”
Biden, who turned 80 in November, frequently struggles with stage direction after speaking. The president was taken away by his aides after appearing to walk in the wrong direction during his address on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s response to Hurricane Ian in October. After giving an economic speech in North Carolina in April, the president seemed to shake hands with thin air.
