Social media users are divided after Meghan Markle appeared to dodge a kiss from Prince Harry during a kiss cam segment at an NBA playoff game on Monday.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the match between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. At one point, the kiss cam focused on the couple. A video shared by the NBA’s Twitter account showed Markle, seemingly a bit embarrassed, waving at the camera when she realized they were on the jumbotron.
Prince Harry seemed eager to partake in the kiss cam tradition, leaning in to kiss his wife. Markle, however, laughed and turned her face, playfully tapping Harry on the arm.
Prince Harry responded to his wife’s evasion with a humorous grimace for the camera.
Some Twitter users criticized Markle for the viral moment, speculating about the couple’s marriage.
One sarcastic user commented, “How dare he try and interrupt her fake laugh?” while another wrote, “Absolutely she rejected him [on] national television.”
Others defended the couple, praising their loving interaction and dismissing any perceived awkwardness.
“We love you both so so much. This is peace, love and happiness,” one supporter wrote, and another commented, “Love it!!! So great to see them happy and enjoying each other! Go Harry and Meghan!!”
Many Twitter users noted that the couple appeared to be enjoying themselves throughout the game, laughing, smiling, and engaging in conversation.
Since stepping back from their roles as working royals in 2020, Markle and Prince Harry have resided in California. The former “Suits” actress has been relatively absent from public events in recent months as Prince Harry promoted his memoir, “Spare.”
The couple made their first public appearance together since the book’s release during a date night at Hollywood hotspot San Vicente Bungalows on February 28.
Buckingham Palace recently announced that Prince Harry will attend King Charles III’s coronation in London on May 6, while Markle and their two children, Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, will remain in California.
