When Paul Mescal first met Nicole Kidman, there was a tense exchange. Mescal shared the amusing tale on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Thursday, saying that Kidman was just wearing his underpants when they first met.
The actor told Kimmel that after a performance of “A Streetcar Named Desire,” the stage drama he has been performing in at London’s Almeida Theater, he and two cast members were “getting dressed” in a dressing room when he heard a tap at the door.
Mescal claimed that when he opened the door, Kidman was there despite his initial assumption that it was merely a stage manager according to CNN.
He laughed and replied, “I’m standing there with damp underpants.
Mescal continued as Kimmel’s audience applauded, saying that although “you’d think the next sensible move is putting on some trousers,” he felt it was “very undignified” to pull up his pants in front of the star.
Finally, Mescal claimed that during a conversation with Kidman about the play, he “half” pulled up his pants and that the awkward session concluded with an embrace. He said, “What the heck just happened,” he and his fellow actors looked at each other as Kidman departed the room.
Other than meeting Kidman, Mescal has had a great year. For his part in “Aftersun,” for which he also received Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations, the actor received his first Oscar nomination.
Mescal should have enough time to zip his pants in time for the Oscars the following week.
