Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are throwing themselves into life across the pond – and they’ve already bagged themselves a staple of A-lister life in LA: a plush mansion.
The couple, who moved out to California in March before the state-wide lockdown, are now living in the eight-bedroom, 12-bathroom home previously owned by Hollywood actor and producer Tyler Perry.
It’s believed Oprah Winfrey introduced the former royals to Tyler thanks to her first-class celebrity network.
Tyler, who has previously partnered with Oprah’s OWN television channel, even asked her to be godmother to his five-year-old son Aman.
Similarly, the ex-Duke and Duchess of Sussex see the TV star as their Hollywood mentor and are working with her on a documentary series.
The £18million Beverly Hills property she hooked them up with has its own gated community where the rich and famous can hide out in the Hollywood hills, away from prying eyes.
The Tuscan villa-inspired mansion boasts its own fountain greeting guests at the front entrance, as well as 22 acres of sprawling grounds which Harry and Meghan’s son Archie can explore to his heart’s content.
Marble pillars support a shady porch out back, where there’s also an enormous pool where the little family can play and work out, as well as a private security team guarding the gates of the exclusive community.
A private drive sweeps across the top of the hill and into the courtyard, taking in the lush green trees and landscaped shrubs that have been planted along the road for extra privacy.
It’s not clear whether Meghan and Harry have bought the property from Tyler or whether he’s just letting them live there, but the Daily Mail reports there are no records of the mansion being sold.
One insider told the publication: “Meghan and Harry have been extremely cautious to keep their base in LA under wraps.
“Their team helped them choose the location for their transition to Los Angeles wisely. Beverly Ridge has its own guarded gate and Tyler’s property has a gate of its own which is watched by their security team. Beverly Ridge is an excellent place to keep out of view.
“The neighbours are mostly old money and mega-rich business types rather than showbusiness gossips. It goes without saying that the location is stunning – just one of the most beautiful and desirable areas in LA.”
Harry, Meghan and Archie fled to LA from Vancouver Island after Canada announced restrictions on its borders due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It’s where Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland lives, so the Sussexes still have some family network in place after quitting their roles as senior members of the royal family.
The couple have just celebrated Archie’s first birthday this week, and reportedly marked the occasion with a ‘smash cake’ – where babies are encouraged to get their hands, feet and faces covered in cake – and Zoom meet-ups with friends and relatives.
Meghan also shared a clip of herself reading to Archie from the Duck! Rabbit! book by Amy Rosenthal – one of a vast collection gifted to the little boy by Oprah.
