Kate and William are the proud parents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge surprised VE Day veterans on a video call on Friday as the couple increasingly take on a more front-line role within the Royal Family. The future King and Queen consort have noticeably made themselves more visible to the public since the birth of Prince Lous in 2018, as the reality of their future importance becomes increasingly apparent.
The strength of their relationship is undoubtedly rock solid today – but this has not always been the case.
After first meeting at the University of St Andrews in 2001, William and Kate “took a break” from dating in 2007 after the now Duchess was left “humiliated” by the Prince’s partying habits.
Jessica Jayne’s 2012 book ‘The Duchess of Cambridge: How Kate Middleton Became A Future Queen’ claims that three years before their engagement, Kate quit her job at fashion house Jigsaw because she needed “some time to think about her relationship with William”.
William even “flirted and danced with a girl” while in club Boujis, the book claims.
Ms Jayne adds: “Kate was further humiliated when a photo of William with two girls was published in the tabloids.”
At the time, William was stationed outside London with the Household Cavalry and reportedly told friends “all the fun has gone” from their relationship.
Kate “did everything she could to make him stay” by “playing a waiting game on minute and then hard-to-get the next” but the Boujis incident is said to have been the final straw.
However, the split was only temporary and when Kate appeared at the Concert for Diana on July 1 that year, the body language was there for all to see.
Kate wanted to pay her respects to the late Princess of Wales but it was here the couple rekindled their romance.
Reflecting on their time apart during their engagement announcement in 2010, Kate said: “I think at the time I wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person.

“You find out things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised.
“I think you can get quite consumed by a relationship when you’re younger and, you know, I really valued that for me as well, although I didn’t think it at the time.”
William added: “We were both very young.
“It was at university, we were sort of both finding ourselves as such and being different characters and stuff, it was very much trying to find our own way and we were growing up.”
Kate and William married in a spectacular ceremony at Westminster Abbey in 2011.
They recently celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary as their relationship appears to go on from strength to strength.
