The extravagant gifts Meghan Markle and Harry received from high-profile friends exposed

The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex have enjoyed the benefits of being in the public eye despite their dislike for it, a new royal biography has claimed. The book Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand reveals how the royal couple travelled around the world with private jets and luxury accommodation sometimes gifted to them by friends.

For their first trip together, Meghan and Harry to Botswana in August 2016 and stayed at the exclusive Meno A Kwena resort featuring £1,500 a night suites.

The following year, the couple returned to the complex on the edge of Makgadikgadi Pans National Park for Meghan’s 36th birthday.

The Duke is said to have “unofficially” proposed at the resort in the Okavango Delta in northern Botswana.

Each “tent” features a king-sized teak bed and an ensuite bathroom complete with “solar-powered hot water on tap, pressurised showers and Egyptian cotton towels”.

The couple also recurred every summer to a “completely undetected” Turkey private villa overlooking the Yalikavak Bay, according to the biography.

For a US trip, Harry’s multimillionaire writer and director friend Arthur Landon let them stay at his Los Angeles home for a week.

The luxurious pad has been described as a “bohemian-style West Hollywood spread with a pool and Sunset boulevard.”

The Duke and his mother-in-law Doria Ragland are said to have met there for the first time in 2016.

The New year getaway consisted of “seven days of dog sledding, whale watching, dining on local delicacies and snuggling to watch as the aurora borealis lit up the skies.”

Just three months later, Hollywood couple George and Amal Clooney, organised a free holiday for the royal couple at their Lake Como home.

According to the book, the Clooneys even lent the Sussexes their private jet to fly to Villa Oleandra in August 2018.

Meghan’s close friend and tennis star, Serena Williams, booked the penthouse at Manhattan’s Mark hotel for the event.

Sir Elton John performed for free at their high-profile wedding reception at their Windsor residence, Frogmore Cottage.

After their wedding, the couple reportedly flew to their honeymoon on a “private jet loaned by a friend.”

The popular singer said he had paid for their flight to his residence in Nice.

The Sussexes travelled there after a holiday in “an upscale gated complex” in Ibiza with their son Archie.

Before the trip Harry had spent time at “exclusive Sicilian seaside resort” for a three-day Google camp with all expenses covered by the tech company.

The couple are currently living “rent free” in Tyler Perry’s £14 million Los Angeles home.

The impressive Tuscan-style villa features eight bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and sits on 22 acres.
