Kate Middleton SHOCK: Why Queen had ‘grave concerns’ about Kate marrying Prince William

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge is currently a key member of the Royal Family after she married Prince William nine years ago. The couple, who have recently acquired more responsibilities as senior members of the Royal Family, have proved their support towards the Queen over the years.

However, according to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, at first, the Queen had “grave concerns” about welcoming Kate into the Firm.

In the book The Making of a Royal Romance, Ms Nicholl said the Queen wasn’t too sure about Kate marrying her grandson at first.

Speaking of her majesty, Ms Nicholl wrote: “Privately she had grave concerns and believed that Kate needed to have a job and an identity in her own right before an engagement was announced.

“She is one of the hardest working royals, despite her age, and that a future of the Royal Family was without a full-time job was unacceptable to her.”

At the time, the Monarch knew “little of the girl who had enchanted her grandson,” despite having met her in several occasions.

Ms Nicholl added: “If she was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique.

“Kate was there so often the press dubbed her ‘Queen of Mustique’, a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret.

“Britain was now in a recession and such frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to the Queen.

“She is one of the hardest-working royals, despite her age, and that a future member of the family was without a full-time job was unacceptable to her.

“While the rest of the world speculated that an engagement was on the horizon for William and Kate, the Queen believed an announcement should be postponed until Kate was settled in a career.”

A source told Ms Nicholl: “It is Her Majesty’s opinion that if Kate is one day going to be William’s consort, then she needs a proper job.

“Swanning from one five-star holiday resort to another is not the prerequisite for a young woman possibly destined to be Queen.”

Ms Nicholl said Kate “was stung by the Queen’s criticism.”

But times have changed since Kate and William’s early dating days, and the Duchess has reportedly proven to be the Queen’s “rock,” especially throughout crises like the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Us Weekly, a royal insider said: “These are strange times for everyone, senior royals included, and having Kate as her rock has made it so much easier for the Queen to adapt to her new life at Windsor.

“More than anything, knowing she can rely on Kate and Prince William to handle matters in her absence is the greatest comfort she could ask for.”

Speaking about the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge’s approach to crises, the insider added: “He’s relieved to have Kate to depend on and refers to her as his better half.

“Their approach to everything is similar—they embody that ‘Keep calm and carry on’ mentality, choosing to focus on positives when things get tough.

“Kate’s a genius at stepping back, breathing deeply and then approaching any difficulty with a level head.”

Her Majesty reportedly now deems the Cambridges more adequate for the future of the monarchy than her son, Prince Charles, who is next in line to the throne.

The source added: “Kate asks for advice about speeches she’s due to make, whom she can depend on most within the palace and protocol dos and don’ts.

“The Queen’s more than happy to impart her wisdom—she’s proud to be Catherine’s go-to adviser about royal life.”
