Dr. Fauci hopes that Americans will learn from previous mistakes made during earlier holiday weekends when celebrating the end of summer. “When you have a holiday like Labor Day—we have seen after the 4th of July, after Memorial Day—we saw a surge of cases,” he explained. To prevent more outbreaks, he suggests sticking to the fundamentals. “Wear a mask, keep social distancing, avoid crowds. You can avoid those kinds of surges. You don’t want to be someone who is propagating the outbreak. You want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.”

Dr. Fauci isn’t entirely confident that an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) vaccine is likely. “I would not be comfortable with a vaccine unless it was shown in a clinical trial clearly to be safe and effective,” he explained. “I’ve been through a number of vaccine trials when EUA’s have ultimately been done but they have been done when there is enough data to feel that it was safe and effective for the American public.”

Dr. Fauci Commented on Sending Kids Home From College

Young adults around the country are flooding college campuses, and outbreaks have been reported at several schools already. However, Dr. Fauci is adamantly against closing up schools and sending kids home, fearing it could worsen the pandemic. “It’s the worst thing you can do,” he pointed out. “Keep them at the university in a place that’s sequestered enough from the other students. Don’t have them go home because they could be spreading in their home state.”

Dr. Fauci confirmed that he is concerned about a possible “Twindemic”—what could happen when coronavirus coincides with flu season. The best way to avoid this from happening? Get the pandemic under control ASAP.  “What I would really like to see is a full court press to get us way down as a baseline so when you get these cases in the fall they won’t surge up,” he says. “They will be controllable.” As for yourself: To get through this pandemic at your healthiest, don’t miss these Sure Signs You’ve Already Had Coronavirus.
