The black and white image, featuring the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, was released to promote a special episode of TIME100 Talks the couple have hosted. In the photo Meghan is wearing a gold watch that appears to be identical to the Cartier Tank Francaise style favoured by Princess Diana.
According to Yahoo News the luxury watch is worth around £17,800.
Meghan, who is seated on a chair, is also wearing a sharp Alexander McQueen suit.
Prince Harry is behind her, perched on the edge of the seat, and looking straight into the camera.
When Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton in 2010 he did so using Princess Diana’s 12-carat oval blue sapphire engagement ring.
Princess Diana’s golden Cartier watch was passed on to Harry who later gave it as a gift to Meghan.
The Princess had been pictured wearing it during a 1997 visit to a Hindu temple in London shortly before her death.
However Meghan reportedly already owned a very similar watch.
According to Irish website Her the future Duchess purchased a two-tone Cartier Tank Francaise watch to celebrate Suits being renewed for a third season in 2013.
Meghan was one of the stars of the US legal drama which was filmed in Toronto.
Speaking to Hello! about the watch she said: “I’ve always coveted it.
“When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.
“I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day.
“That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.”
It is unclear which of the Cartier Tank Francaise style watches Meghan was wearing for the TIME100 Talks photo.
The engagement ring Harry gave Meghan also features two stones from his late mother’s collection.
Speaking to the BBC about it in 2017 Meghan said: “Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [Diana’s stones] and obviously not being able to meet his mum, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us.”
Harry and Meghan hosted a TIME100 Talks special edition titled “Engineering a Better World”.
The event discussed the “pursuit of a more compassionate, safe, and trustworthy digital word” with a number of industry experts.
Guests included Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, and online disinformation researcher Renee DiResta.
Meghan and Harry caused a global sensation in January when they announced their plan to step down as senior members of the Royal Family.
Instead the couple vowed to become “financially self-sufficient” and moved to California shortly before the state went into a coronavirus inspired lockdown.
The Duke and Duchess recently moved to a new £11.2million home to the north of Los Angeles.
