A mountain lion has been spotted near Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s £11m new mansion, just days after a bear scare in the area.
The couple bought their first home – a stunning nine-bed, 16-bath property in Montecito, Santa Barbara – earlier this year and have spent the last few months making it perfect for their family.
But just a few months after moving in, the couple have faced two animal warnings as wild beasts have been spotted nearby.
The big cat, which is also known as a cougar, roared at a pet dog in a garden two miles away from the Sussexes’ family home, reports the Sun.
Miles Hartfeld, who owns the German Shephard, called out experts from the County of Santa Barbara Fish and Wildlife Commission who studied the area to learn more about the cat.
His fiancée Gretchen Lieff told the Sun: “The wildlife biologist said it came from a cat and it was too large for a bobcat.”
Earlier this week there were concerns when a large black bear was seen roaming in the area.
CCTV footage showed the wild animal prowling around neighbours’ homes, and is said to have attacked chickens and rifled through bins.
Experts have said the bear – which in the western state can grow up to seven feet tall and weigh 550 pounds – is likely to be searching for food after its den was disturbed.
It is believed to have previously set up home on the grounds of a nearby ranch, which was recently sold, forcing it to begin wandering.
The bear was previously seen yards from Oprah Winfrey’s estate, which is nearby, and it now appears to have returned.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has cited odours coming from chicken coops, which are popular among residents, as the likely reason.
The Montecito Association sent an email to homeowners – seen by The Sun – warning: “The bear likely lives in Ranchos San Carlos, which recently sold.

“There may be new activity on the ranch that is disturbing the bear and setting it off into the community.
“This could be a bad outcome for that bear, unfortunately, and is dangerous for neighbors.
“The sheriffs are contacting Fish and Wildlife to put a humane trap for the animal so it can be safely relocated.”
Fatal bear attacks on humans are rare in the US, with experts advising those confronted by one to avoid making eye contact and to remain calm.
Before buying the property, Meghan and Harry were staying in a house owned by movie producer Tyler Perry in LA.
While the price tag on their new house might look huge, it seems Meghan and Harry may have actually picked up a bargain as it’s said to actually be worth closer to £20m, reports the Sun.
They took out a £7.25m mortgage and got some financial help from Prince Charles.
They moved in July and insiders say they want to make it their permanent home after living in Windsor, Canada and LA in a matter of months
One of the downsides of their new home is that they are now a 90-minute drive from Meghan’s mum Doria, who they are very close to, but the mansion has its own two-bed guest house so Archie’s nan will always have somewhere to stay.
Montecito is a popular area with celebrities, and Meghan and Harry have a lot of very famous neighbours – including several of their close friends.
Oprah lives in a huge $90million home in nearby, with huge lawns and a stunning sea view.
Meanwhile Ellen DeGeneres, who visited Meghan and Harry at their Windsor home shortly after Archie was born, has several homes in the area.
The house was built and 2003 and sold in 2009 for more than $25million, while Harry and Meghan’s combined wealth is understood to be in the region of $43 million.

The couple reportedly plan to settle in the area and put down lasting roots for themselves and young son Archie – having quit the Royal Family and left the UK in March.
A source told PageSix Harry and Meghan have been “quietly living” in their new home for around six weeks.
“This is where they want to continue their lives after leaving the UK.
“This is the first home either of them has ever owned. It has been a very special time for them as a couple and as a family.”
