Prince Philip has dedicated his entire life to supporting his wife in her role as Queen, and puts the Monarchy ahead of everything.
So it was hard for him to see his grandson, Prince Harry, do the complete opposite and turn his back on royal life with his new wife Meghan Markle, an expert has claimed.
Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Magesty magazine, claims the Duke has “walked away” from the couple after they ignored his advice.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, she said: “Philip simply cannot understand how Harry has behaved the way he has done. His grandson’s behavior is completely alien to him so not unnaturally the relationship has suffered.”
Seward, who has just released a new book about the Duke, Prince Philip Revealed: A Man of his Century, also claims that the Queen tried to protect her husband from the upset and fallout caused.
Speaking about the Sandringham Summit, when the Queen, Charles, William and Harry sat down to work out the logistics of Megxit, she said: “The fact that he was driven away from the big house at Sandringham before everyone even arrived signaled he didn’t want to be part of it.”
Seward has met Philip several times, and knows that his approach is to offer his advice and then step back as he “doesn’t like to interfere”.
She said: “It was up to Harry and Meghan to listen but they didn’t and Philip has always been very protective of the Queen so if anyone upsets her, they upset him too. His mantra is the monarchy comes first, second, and third.”
In her new book, Seward also reveals that Philip skipped Meghan and Harry’s wedding reception for health reasons.
