The Duchess gifted Captain Tom Moore a “wonderful and thoughtful” cake and card from “whole of the York family”. The Duchess of York’s assistant Antonia Marshall shared an image of the elaborate cake to Instagram.
The cake is dedicated to the World War II veteran who’s inspired the nation by raising £30 million for The NHS by doing laps of his garden.
The WW2 veteran set a goal of 1,000 and ended up raising £30million for the NHS.
The Second World War veteran celebrated his birthday with a promotion in rank, military flypasts and a message of support from the Prime Minister.
To celebrate his birthday, Captain Tom was appointed the first Honorary Colonel of the Army Foundation College.
The message attached to the royal gift was from Fergie, ex-husband Prince Andrew, and their two daughters Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie.
It read: “Happy Birthday Captain Tom, with love to all your family, the York Family.”
Sharing a picture of the cake, Antonia, the Duchess of York’s assistant wrote: “Wonderful and thoughtful cake and card from the whole of the York Family for Colonel Tom Moore.”
The cake was decorated with an edible model of Tom, his fellow soldiers saluting him and his various war medals.
It also included personal pictures of Tom and his family as well as an image of his online fundraising page.
A copy of a newspaper with a front page dedicated to Tom was also found on the cake, alongside a model of the number one single he recorded with Michael Ball, covering “We’ll Meet Again” by Dame Vera Lynn.
It included edible poppy flowers, pictures of the NHS logo and was completed with the message from the family.
Alongside the cake was a smaller version, created by bespoke baker Anna Paula Veiga.
The cake was crafted to look like a photo frame, showing pictures of Tom taken during his time in the army and today.
Royal fans quickly took to the comments section to share messages of praise to both the York’s and Captain Tom Moore.
“Amazing”, said one, “lovely family – @sarahferguson15 is such a kind and thoughtful person, her kindness through the pandemic has been so admirable and so appreciated by everybody – thank you.”
Another agreed: “Such a lovely gesture from The Yorks! …not to mention that incredible cake!”
A third commented: “That’s an amazing cake and great kindness from the Yorks”
It comes as the mother-of-two helped raise funds for the NHS in her own way.
The duchess threw her support behind Kurt Geiger’s We Are One tote bags by posing with the accessory in a playful snap taken at her home.
Posing from The Royal Lodge, Windsor, Fergie sported a striking woodland-themed headband.
All profits from sales of the bag will go to NHS Charities Together.
This is a not-for-profit organisation of 250 charities attempting to raise £1 million every day for hospitals.
She captioned the image: “I am proud to support our amazing @nhs with the #WeAreOne tote bag from @kurtgeiger.
“100% of profits are donated to NHS Charities Together @evening.standard.”
