What is sebum production?
Sebum is produced by sebaceous glands when they disintegrate explained DermNet.NZ
It continued: “The gland cells last about a week, from formation to discharge.
“The sebaceous glands produce lipids, triglycerides, which are broken down by bacterial enzymes in the sebaceous duct to form smaller compounds, free fatty acids.
“The oil on the surface of skin is a complex mixture of sebum, lipids, sweat and environmental waste.”
In a study with the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, traditional use of Canagna odorata (Ylang ylang) for hair loss was investigated.
The study noted: “Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata Hook. F. & Thomson) is one of the plants that are exploited at a large scale for its essential oil which is an important raw material for the fragrance industry.
“According to both of the folks from India and islanders of the Indian Ocean, the leaves of C. odorata are believed to relieve itchiness by direct topical application and also to treat dandruff.
“Ylang-ylang oil has been reported to be ingredients for many cosmetic products such as skin care products, hair protecting products, and a hair growth promoter.”
